Rehabilitation Center
Paris Regional Medical Center's Rehabilitation Center includes a 36-bed, Medicare-certified, inpatient rehabilitation unit offering an interdisciplinary team and family-centered approach to patient care. The goal-oriented plan of care helps patients achieve their maximum level of independence. Intensity of therapy and continuity of care are achieved by providing all services within a self-contained unit. The department is designed to provide a safe, positive environment where individuals who have been disabled by illness or injury can reach their potential, accept responsibility for their lives, and live a lifestyle acceptable to them.
Rehabilitation Services The Rehabilitation Center provides services to patients with stroke, orthopedic disorders, amputation, arthritis, neurological disorders, Systemic vasculidities such as Systemic Lupus, spinal cord injuries and multiple trauma, and adults with physical congenital deformities and burns.
Rehabilitation Staff
Our staff includes a physiatrist -- a medical doctor specializing in physical medicine who manages overall rehabilitative care, registered nurses who specialize in rehabilitative care, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech and language pathologists, social services, psychological support and a recreational therapist. In addition, our program director or case manager can assist physicians with coordinating and evaluating referrals and even suggesting ways that rehabilitation might begin before admission.
Admission Criteria A rehabilitation professional evaluates a patient's readiness for admission based on the following criteria: . Patient demonstrates potential for functioning improvements. . Patient meets admission criteria guidelines set by Medicare or their private insurance carrier. . The patient is medically capable of participating in the rehabilitation process. . Can tolerate three hours of progressive therapy daily. If these criteria are met, admissions to the rehabilitation unit may be accepted from an acute care hospital, a post-hospital setting or from home. Since we believe family members play an integral part in a patient's recovery, we encourage family or other support persons to actively participate in the rehabilitation process.
Upon admission, our staff will provide a program orientation. An initial evaluation will be completed and a written treatment plan will be shared with the patient and family. Our medical director will manage all medical care needs of the patient, including rehabilitative and general medical care. We will automatically furnish patient status and progress information to the referring physician.
Referral Process Our admission procedures are designed to provide simple, timely and appropriate attention to the needs of patients and their physician. Our rehab physician and program director are available to assist physicians, patients and their families in making a referral.
A call from the referring facility, family member or physician at 903-737-1315 or 737-1325 initiates a referral admission.
A prescreening evaluation will be performed, with the medical director giving final approval. The referring facility or physician, patient and family will be notified and in most cases, our physicians and/or program director will meet with patients and their families prior to admission.
Discharge Actual discharge planning is begun at admission. The rehab team will discuss the patient's status weekly (more often, if necessary) and recommend a length of stay and appropriate discharge destination. Appropriate referrals will be made, family notified and an appointment set up with the referring and family physician. All recommendations for post-discharge care will be provided to the patient and family.
PRMC also offers outpatient therapy services to include Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy. The therapists work with the pediatric through geriatric populations. Most outpatient services occur in the gym on the North Campus. |
