Paris Regional Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of neurologist Joseph Scamardo, M.D. to the medical staff. Dr. Scamardo will serve as the hospital’s only neurologist.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Scamardo to our team and to the Paris community,” said Chris Dux, CEO of Paris Regional Medical Center. “As Paris Regional Medical Center’s only neurologist, Dr. Scamardo will play an important role in providing high quality care to our patients.”

Most recently, Dr. Scamardo practiced at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center Hospital in Cookeville, Tennessee where he also served as Stroke Program Director. He is board eligible from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Dr. Scamardo received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Business Administration at Texas A&M University and his Doctor of Medicine from Texas Tech University Health Science Center. He performed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch of Internal Medicine and the Texas Tech University Health Science Neurology, where he also served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Scamardo’s special areas of interest include sleep disorders and headaches.

“My family and I are excited about moving to Paris. It is such a friendly community and seems to be a great place to raise a family,” said Dr. Scamardo. He and his wife, Anne, have four daughters, Kenna, Micah, Rebecca and Seraiah.

To introduce himself to the community, Dr. Scamardo is conducting two free seminars during the month of August.

The first seminar, “Head Case: Diagnosing and Treating Various Types of Headaches” will be held on Tuesday, August 5. The second seminar on preventing and treating stroke is entitled “Striking Out Against Stroke” and will be held on Tuesday, August 26.

Both seminars are free and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the newly renovated and relocated Lewis Hall on Paris Regional Medical Center’s North Campus.

What is a Neurologist?
A neurologist is a medical doctor who has trained in the diagnosis and treatment of nervous system disorders, including diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. Neurologists perform neurological examinations of the nerves of the head and neck; muscle strength and movement; balance, ambulation, and reflexes; and sensation, memory, speech, language, and other cognitive abilities.
